Big Night of Art Celebrations in November “Triple Play”

In November the Shreveport Regional Arts Council kicked off the holiday season celebrating the artists in the Northwest Louisiana in a “triple play” of opening receptions and award ceremony. On November 8 at artspace art gallery in downtown Shreveport SRAC and the City of Shreveport presented five artists each with a $2000 Fellowship Award. Fellowship Awards assist Artists in exploring, creating and experimenting in their area of expertise. Fellowship Awards also allow Artists to take advantage of opportunities and work on and explore new mediums. The winners of the 2013 Fellowship Awards are Luther Cox, Jr. (Dance), June Rose Dowis (Literature), Brenda Wimberly (Music), Rachel Stuart-Haas (Visual Arts), and Alan Dyson (Multi-Discipline).

Also that night, two new and special exhibitions opened: artspace PRESENTS and OBJECT. Artspace PRESENTS is the Holiday Gallery exhibition featuring original artworks created by artists from the ten parishes of Northwest Louisiana, readied for holiday purchase. Artworks featured are a diverse mixture of holiday ornaments, specialty food products, paintings, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry and more created by these professional artists. The artists featured in artspace PRESENTS are Brian Buckner, Susan Duke, Cheryl Gianforte, Paula Hallman, Talbot Hopkins, Jim Hudelson, Hooshang Khorasani, Chris McCaa, Contina Pierson, Danielle Richard, Jane Ryder, Su Stella and Lauri Wallace.

OBJECT is an art exhibition by Shreveport-based artists Adam Volker and Joe Bluhm featuring the vibrant artwork. Volker and Bluhm are best known for their imaginative work creating games, books and films through animation, illustration and storytelling in the entertainment industry. OBJECT focuses on Volker and Bluhm’s talents in fine art and painting.
